kandara. 26. female.
child of the floods. weapon. sorceress.
the first born child of a low ranking priest, kandara was five years old and being trained in magic by the dryads when the obscure prophecy about the fourth child seemed to become reality. her father reacted the way any responsible adult would: he conjured a flurry of floods that would repeat until they finally washed away the fourth child.
unfortunately for basically everyone, the fourth child was the child of one of the queen's most trusted knights and the prince consort's oldest friend. as the queen was unable to conceive - too battle-hungry and injured badly in one - and the prince was desperate, they agreed to adopt the child and keep him safe from these floods. the idea was that the person who began these floods would not dare continue if it would harm the royal family's sole heir (well, there's a nephew, but everyone believes him to be an idiot) and that the royal family could offer him protection even the knight could not.
it works, insomuch as the child is safe and alive. however, it does not deter the priest and instead makes him determined to kill the kid. to this end, he tries searching for the child himself, but his magic does not stretch to such spells - too exhausted by the floods he cannot stop. fortunately for him, kandara is showing a lot of promise in all areas magical. so he uses one of the spells he is capable of performing: he empowers her, gives her a connection to the floods and to water that will help her as a sorceress but more importantly as the person tasked with hunting down and killing the fourth child.
it's the dryads who stop her childhood from being a total wash of terrible ideas. they convince her father that she requires far more education and training to defeat someone as powerful as the fourth child. they promise that she will receive the education from all the beings in their oaklands, that her affinity for magic combined with their knowledge and the priest's strengthening will be enough to allow her to kill the child by the time it turns 21.
the next years of her life are spent learning, training her magic and her mind to control the extra power floods and water give her. her father regularly sends her books on all sorts of topics as she gets older and more able to explain what an asshole he is - it's his attempt at apologising for the lot he left her with. anything that she wants to know about, he sends. so she learns about geography, about the magic used in other places that the dryads and all the other beings in the oaklands don't know. she acquaints herself with the prophecy that got her tangled up with this overpowered magic in the first place.
and one day, when she's twenty six and beginning to hunt for the fourth child, she runs into him. the prince of her country is out on his own, on a personal quest to learn the lands he will one day rule. she talks to him first, gets to know him, doesn't realise that he's the child she's searching for until they've traversed most of the oaklands and gotten to know each other.

"it is i for whom the floods are intended."
"and i am empowered by them."
"then you were intended to kill me."
